Interior Design Tying Colors in your Home Together

Hello, I assume you are here because you just can’t figure out what color you want to decorate your home in. Well, I am here to help you. Today I’m going to discuss the the psychology of different colors that you might find in a home, and exactly how you can leverage these colors to get the most out of your home.

So let us first discuss how we can take one one palette you’ve already made for one room, and slowly leverage it out into other areas of your home to create a perfect interior. Basically, we’re going to want to create a palette with some continuity that’ll easily flow through out each of your rooms, and there’s actually a couple of ways we can do this. So first of all, if you’ve already picked a room and designed your first palette, then we’re going to take that palette and build off of that. You do that by adding different hues and different saturation of colors as you move from room to room in your home. So for example, if you’ve used a brown on the walls of one room, then try not adding brown to the walls in the next room, but instead bring in the brown through the fabrics. So basically, the idea is to vary the colors around so that way there’s always something viewers can see new, but nothing just out of the ordinary, or something to replicated, or something that doesn’t match with the rest of your home. Make sense? Just do something different in each room while sticking to the basic colors you’ve already chosen for your first rooms palette.

Another thing you can do as you’re moving from room to room through out your home, is pick one dominant color, or two evenly placed colors on your first palette, and make sure to evenly spread them out into every room. Let’s say you have one room with red fabric, in the next room choose something that accents the red, like a red plant or red pictures mounted up. This way you’re bringing the red through all of the rooms, but in a unique way every time. I’m going to try to paint you a better picture of what I mean about incorporating the same colors in each room, but in a different way. So allow me to explain how I did my very own home, and perhaps you can take this idea and incorporate it into your home with your own favorite colors.

I pretty much developed my palette based on my likes and dislikes of colors. You’ll find that my colors and home are on the more traditional side of colors. I’ve chosen to use red, blue, a golden tone, green, and a vanilla colored yellow. So we’re going to start with my living room. I’ve basically taken a darker blue and used it in some of the fabrics (window curtains, pillows, etc.), and also taking a more pale version of that blue for the walls. Then I have my couch as the vanilla yellow, while having a little red in a golden colored portrait on the wall. You can see as to what colors are dominant, and which ones are accents. Now, when moving into my second room (family room) I decided to use green as my dominant color (color of fabrics and furniture). And I’ve also used the same vanilla yellow and blue in there as well, but as the accents this time around. So now you’d find maybe yellow flowers with blue portraits. I think you can kind of see where this goes. This is just a little info about how you can go from room to room in your home while incorporating a sleek and unique look to each room while using the same colors in your palette.

At this point you have an excellent idea about how you can take a palette you’ve already invested so much time into, and build off of it to create that perfect interior atmosphere. This way you can maintain continuity without exaggeration. Also, don’t forget that there are many professional resources you can look into if you find yourself in a jam while in the middle of your designing.
